Cagayan de Oro City fiesta Celebration

A tiger look from a dancer

The annual Kagayha-an Festival Street dancing and the annual Civic Military parade are only two of many major highlights of the city fiesta of Cagayan de Oro City. Yesterday, August 26, 2006 at 8 in the morning, together with my officemates, we sneaked a bit from work to eat breakfast and as a side tour to watch the annual Kagayha-an Festival Street Dancing Competition along Don A.Velez Street, Cagayan de Oro City.

Different schools and institutions around Region 10 province joined the competition to vie for the first prize worth 100,000 PhP. Each contingent showcased their colorful uniforms and awesome ethnic street-dancing prowess to the judges and to the public. I remember when I was in college where our school joined the contest and I am one of the street dancers and fortunately our school grabbed the first prize. It was such an experience during Cagayan de Oro Fiestas.

So much for the Kagayha-an Festival, this morning I headed to the same street (Don A. Velez Street) to witness the Civic Military Parade where different public and private schools joined to parade their best band and majorettes together with their CAT and ROTC private cadets. Companies, civic groups and other institutions also joined the parade where some bring with them their muses. Former Miss International, Melanie Marquez and Mrs. World 2006 Finalist Maricarl Tolosa Cabel are among the muses who parade their beauties and the products they endorse.

The sun that time was so intense to the skin but I never mind it, just to take some pictures of the event. I might get sunburned but never mind its worth the pay. Now I have those pictures posted on this blog of mine.

By the way I’ll have to watch out tomorrow August 28, 2006 asides for it is the fiesta day where foods will be serve to every households but Mrs. Gloria Arroyo the President herself was invited to witness the Lambagohan Festival where this time it’s the colorful and decorated boats will shine along Cagayan de Oro river, and also one of the highlights of the fiesta and an annual event.

This year’s theme is Tsada Kagayan. Happy Fiesta Cagayan de Oro and Viva Sr. San Agustin!!!
